2nd week is almost over

It is hard to believe I have been doing this for almost 2 weeks.  I think I am rally into the groove and am able to figure out what to eat and how much pretty easily.  Jeff (my husband) has been really supportive.  He is the main cook in our house and we are working together to do the menus and for our family to eat more healthy.
I went out of town this weekend, so this was the first time where I really had to work on the plan when I wasn't as in control of everything.  I managed to eat within my diet at Burger King - Tendergrill chicken salad- I didn't use the cheese, croutons or dressing that came with it.  Yesterday we had lunch at perkos'  I had a 1/2 turkey sandwich, salad and veggie soup.  I just didn't have dressing and did not eat the bread on the sandwich.  All in all I think I did pretty well  I even exercised both days I was away.  It was a good weekend and a nice visit with my grandma, though I am ready to relax and sleep in my own bed tonight.  My next check in to get weighed in on Tuesday so I will post an update afterwards.

Feeling a little down today

So I have been so excited the last 2 days about my almost 5 lb weight loss.  Then I remembered, I am also in a contest and competing against people so that I can fully continue this program.  This brought me to look at the KRTY website and the weekly updates from the other contestants and that is when things went down hill.  I have lost the least amount of weight of all the people:-(.   I just have to remember that ultimately I am doing this for myself and my family, and that everything will work out in the end!!

Week one Check in

I went back to the clinic today for my one week check in.  I got weighed, we reviewed my blood test results and discussed how I am handling the diet.   The good news is I have lost 4.7 lbs in one week!!!! Yay!!!!  The not so great news is my blood test showed that my Cholesterol is high.  I have had it checked before and it was always really good ,so this is something that I will need to work on as well as contact my regular doctor about it. The Doctor says I am doing well with the diet and doing what I should.  I am very excited and hope I continue to make such good progress.  Anticipating how the other participants also did this week?  I think my biggest challenge in the coming week will be that I am driving my grandma to southern Ca this weekend and will have to deal with eating out and being out of my routine.   I am ready for the challenge though.

Days 5-7

Well it is almost over.  The first weekend, a long one and the first week in the program. It is certainly somewhat tougher during the weekend.  Without the consistent schedule of the work week, trying to get all the water in me.  Not munching on the goodies in the cupboard that I am not supposed to eat.  I will admit I took a couple of nibbles of things that are not on the diet plan, but I am really proud of how I have done so far.  It has been relatively easy as well.  I am fairly sure I can attribute that to the diet suppressant that I am taking as part of the program.  I am not as hungry and don't want to eat as much as I did before.  I got a food scale so I am really trying to weight things out and make sure that I am eating the appropriate serving size.  It is amazing how much is recommended, say 3 oz of chicken versus what I would normally eat. I know I have lost a few pounds according to the scale here at home but I will get a specific idea tomorrow when I go to my one week visit to the program tomorrow, and will tell you about the specifics tomorrow night.

Day 4- Friday Feb 18th

Well today was the first day that I woke up and was feeling somewhat hungry.  It figures it is also the day I can't eat until later because I am fasting to go get my blood drawn this morning.  The Dr. will review it and determine if there is anything that might be affecting my weightloss such as thyroid etc.   Once again I am busy running around with meetings for work. I got a little behind on my water, but managed to drink the minimum.  It is Friday so that means the 3 day weekend is upon us.  Looking forward to a family grocery shopping trip tomorrow and geting myself some more options for food.  A little worried about the down time of the weekend.  I have been busy with work all week.  Now I will be home for most of the weekend. The weather is cold and wet so not to many opportunities to do stuff.  Hopefully I will not fall into my boredom eating.  I did get a great workout in this morning and that felt great.  3 days in a row!!!

Day 3

Well today was pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday.  I am also of course trying to fit some exercise into my routines.  Really the only time I can eek out is in the morning before Connor gets up and we get ready for school and work.  So right now I am getting up at about 4:50.  That gives me enough time to do about 30-35 min.  I am using the Wii fit, and have mainly used the Step program, but I think I will try and branch out a little next week.  My goal right now is to get this 30 minutes in for at least 4-5 times a week.  I am also trying to work more activity into my daily life.  I have started parking at the very back of the parking lot, so that I can get a few extra steps in my routine.  I am also trying to take the stairs up and down from my office.  I am only on the 2nd floor which is doable for my bum knee.  I was out an about today a lot for meetings for work, so keeping my water bottle filled while also constantly asking my clients if I can use their bathroom is a little annoying, but I know it will be well worth it in the end.

Day 2

Will power has never been my strong point.  So far so good, but if you are the praying type please pray for me to have will power. I feel pretty good about today.  I had a few quick moments of hunger but that pill must be doing it's job because as soon as I do start to eat something I get full pretty quick.  I thought I would share what I ate today,

Breakfast- 1 whole egg plus 2 egg whites scrambled with a little cheese and 4 oz of nonfat yogurt sweetened with spenda
Snack- string cheese
Lunch- salad with tomatoes, cucumber and radish pus some redwine vinegar and lemon pepper for "dressing" I also had 3 oz of oven roasted turkey lunchmeat and an orange
Snack- small apple
Dinner= 3 oz of sausage with zucchini Yum

And don't forget about the 116 oz of water I have drank today.
Jeff and I sat down and worked on our grocery list and meal ideas for the next couple of weeks as well.
Feeling positive and looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 1

Went to my initial consultation yesterday at Greenlite Medicine in Mtn view to learn all about the program.  Wow, it is a little more than I was anticipating. But I guess we should get to my stats before I talk more about that.  I weighed in at 265.9, which I was actually a little excited about because the last time I weighed my self at home 2 weeks ago when I entered the contest I was at 271.  So I figure I already have a nice jump start.  They do a full body analysis.  the good new was I have a lot of good lean body mass ( muscle).  But way to much fat...as if I didn't already know that one.  my total body fat was 52.1%.  The health guidellines want you between 18-28%. This is what they really want to focus on because they want to make sure you are keeping the muscle and losing the fat. I wont lie learning about the program was a little overwhelming,  I was imagining some sort of all around moderation and reduction, but this is a high protein (lean) and almost no carb program. The only carbs realy come from your fruits and vegetables.  Their goes my brown rice and oatmeal.  It is very limited on calories as well, which is why the give you an appetite suppresent at the beginning so you are not always feeling hungry, until your stomach shrinks some.  It is also why they have you monitored weekly and see the Dr. They give you lots of information on what type of foods are recommended and even some shopping lists for Trader Joe's.  Once I left the center and was driving back to work, I went into a bit of a panic mode.  Trying to figure out what food we have in the house that I can eat for the rest of the week that will fit into the program until we go grocery shopping again.  I decided to take it easy for the rest of the day regarding the food and map out what I would do for the next day and start tracking everything tomorrow.   My plan is to get up early tomorrow to also get a little more activity into my daily schedule.  For now I am going to use my Wii fit and some of those activities. Wish Me luck!

Starting the Journey to a healthier me!

So I just got accepted as a contestant in a local radio stations (www.KRTY.com)  "Biggest Loser" contest.  No I won't be going off to the ranch like in the TV show.  I will be participating in a local medical weight loss program for 30 days.  The program is sponsored by Greenlite Medical here in the Bay Area.  As part of the contest the Radio station is going to have us write weekly updates about our experience. I decided I want to take it one step further and try and keep this as a daily journal/blog.  I can't thank my family, friends and strangers enough who voted for me to be able to have this opportunity.  I am competing against 5 other people to see who loses the most in 30 days.  The winner will get 6 more months on the program, 2nd place gets 3 more months and 3rd place gets 1 more month.  I am really looking forward to this opportunity as a jumping off point to losing some weight and becoming more active. Tomorrow I will be going to meet with the Dr. and find out all the details of the program and what will lie ahead for me in the next 30 days.

Thank you again to everyone who has promised their support and encouragement.
